Warranty & Care

Carlson Guitars are built with the intention that they be played, cared for, and enjoyed for decades. This page outlines the warranty coverage, care expectations, and ongoing support provided with each instrument.

Warranty Coverage

Each Carlson guitar is covered by a 5-year limited warranty to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship.

This warranty reflects my confidence in the instruments I build and my commitment to standing behind the work during the period when craftsmanship-related issues would reasonably present themselves.

If a covered issue arises, repairs will be evaluated and addressed at my discretion to restore the instrument to proper playing condition.

What the Warranty Covers

The limited warranty applies to:

  • Defects in workmanship

  • Defects in materials directly related to construction

Coverage is valid for the original owner and applies only to instruments built by Carlson Guitars.

What the Warranty Does Not Cover

Because acoustic guitars are living instruments, certain conditions fall outside the scope of warranty coverage. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Damage resulting from improper humidity or temperature exposure

  • Normal wear, finish checking, and natural aging

  • Accidental damage, impact, or misuse

  • Unauthorized or unapproved repairs or modifications

  • Setup changes due to string preference or seasonal movement

These exclusions exist to ensure clarity and fairness for both the owner and the builder.

Care & Humidity

Proper humidity control is critical to the long-term health of an acoustic guitar.

Wood naturally expands and contracts in response to environmental conditions. Prolonged exposure to low or fluctuating humidity can lead to issues such as cracks, loose joints, fret sprout, or changes in playability, none of which are considered defects in materials or workmanship.

Owners are expected to:

  • Maintain the instrument within a stable humidity range (generally 40–50% relative humidity)

  • Use appropriate humidification when necessary

  • Store the guitar in its case when not in use

  • Avoid exposure to extreme temperature changes or dry environments

Each instrument is delivered in a custom-fit, branded molded flight case, selected to protect the guitar during storage and transport. Proper use of the case and humidity control are essential parts of responsible ownership.

Repairs & Support

If your instrument requires attention, I strongly recommend contacting me before pursuing any repair work. This allows me to advise on the best course of action and help ensure the instrument is cared for appropriately.

Repairs performed outside of warranty coverage are not provided at no cost and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Owners are welcome to work with qualified repair professionals of their choosing; however, Carlson Guitars is not responsible for the cost or outcome of unauthorized or faulty repairs.

In some cases, prior approval may be required for warranty-related repairs to remain valid.

A Note on Natural Materials

Wood is a natural material that responds to time, environment, and use. Subtle changes in appearance, feel, or tonal character are a normal part of an instrument’s life and should be viewed as part of its individuality rather than a defect.

Final Thoughts

Carlson Guitars are built to be played, not preserved behind glass. With proper care, humidity control, and open communication, each instrument is intended to remain a reliable musical companion for generations.
